Finding Myself - Day 10 of the April Platform Challenge

Posted by at in

Today’s April Platform Challenge; do a search on my name. Nine search engines later and boy, was I humbled, or as close to humble as I normally get.

I searched for ‘Paul K. Ellis’ on Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ask, Dogpile, Yippy, YouTube and Google Images. First, the good news, no asheretofore previously unknown videos or images. Yay! Now, the bad news; I also do not appear in any search engine results. Wow, talk about having no social media presence.

However, if I searched for ‘dsnite’, this blog is returned at the TOP of the search on all the engines except YouTube and Google images. HA! Take that!

You need to get more web presence. I wonder if Robert is going to teach us how to do that? ^_^

Give it some time and keep working at it. I've been doing this for a little under two years now, and Keryl Raist is up to 66,600 hits on Google.

It also helps to hang out on things that up your ISO profile, like linking your blog to your twitter feed, Goodreads.com, Librarything.com, etc... (Also every time you comment on someone else's blog, you add a link back to your own, so your blog goes higher up and gets easier to find. And so forth and so on...)

Using your pen name for your flickr feed is a good way to add images to the Google search. (And, of course, those readers like images. Or so everyone tells me!)

Liked this post. Can't wait to see tomorrow's.

That was horribly depressing. Not only do I not show up in any of the search engines, there are about ten thousand other people using my name, pretending to be me. A more successful me. A btter-looking me. A me without serious personality issues. (Sadly, there are also a lot of me currently listed in the obituary section.) Consequently, I'm considering a name-change. Something slightly less common. Like Rumplestiltskin Fernblatt. Or Quasimodo Investiture.
